I listed my car for sale, and have a buyer that is very interested. I had informed the buyer that I still have a loan on the car, and later the buyer came back and told me his bank would pay off my car loan, and whatever the difference is, the bank will cut me a check. The buyer said he will be leasing this car through his bank, but I had never heard of a used car private party lease. I want to know if this is something legit.

Hey,
I am in very peculiar situation.
5 years ago when i was NH resident, i bought new car from the dealer in MA. The dealer then didn’t tax me as i was going to register my car in NH. NH didn’t collect any sales tax as there is no such thing in NH and got my registration done. However, 3 months ago i moved to MA and tried to register my vehicle.
MA is now asking me to pay the salestax at the original purchase price and penalty for all these 5 years. I don’t know what i should do now.
If there are anyone who faced similar situation?
What is the solution?
Thanks
sri

I heard that some people purchase cars out of state to avoid high sales tax here in California. Does this work or is it worth it for new or used cars? Does anyone know whats involved? Would it be worth it to even fly to another state and then drive back? Anyone have any experience in this area?

we want to sell our car in new york city as one private entity to another private individual. the NYS DMV website states that the seller must remove the plates from the vehicle before handing the car over to the new buyer, in order to return the plates to the DMV. we will be signing the title over to the new buyer, but still – how does the new buyer drive away legally without any plates on the car?

I bought a car a few years ago when I lived in Oregon (Sales Tax Free State). Paid off 100% was mine. I went to move up to Canada and the car wasn’t going to pass B.C’s “AirCare” so I gave it to a friend of mine. Well me and my wife then decided we would rather live in the USA. So we moved to Blaine WA. The car company wouldn’t let me import the car I was leasing from them. Well my friend had never used the car so he said he would just give it back to me. So I drove back down to Oregon to pick the car up. He had registered the car in his name as Oregon law requires. When I got back up to Washington and try to register my car in my name again they want to charge me 8.5% Sales tax on the Bluebook value of the car ($1400) thats $153. Even though the car was a “GIFT” Is the lady at the office wrong? (In WA they dont have DMVs like other states. Here they have like grocery stores that do this stuff) Or am I really going to pay that on top of the registration fees?

Any Link to the actual rules and regulations would be the best! Thanks!

We have a price set. I want to make sure that I do everything I need to, because he is permanently moving outside the US, so if something is forgotten or neglected, it could be impossible to recify it.

I assume that I need to write out a bill of sale for each of us, saying this car was purchased on this date for x amount of dollars.
What else is needed? Thanks so much for answering

After four days that I bought a used car at Tyson in Shorewood, IL, the engine of this car failed.
I try to negotiate with the person that sold this car and with general sales manager of the store Jim Kinney, but they were very unhelpful and disrespectful. They did not want to take any responsibility even that I drove this car only 60 miles. This is a very ripped of . Are car dealers allowed to sell junk cars?
What I should do?
