I recently totaled my Lexus LX470 (other driver at fault) and am waiting for insurance to check out the vehicle (not declared totaled yet, but very clear that it is). My car had an agreed upon value of $26,000 and I am going to soon buy a new car. When I purchase the new car, will I have to pay sales tax, title fees, etc? Is the sales tax that I have to pay assumed to be included in my $26000 settlement or will I have to later seek reimbursement for my title, tax, and licensing? I live in Pennsylvania, insurance is Chubb.

In order to get the bill of sale and the title, I have to pay for the car. After I pay for the car, can I drive it to Connecticut to get it registered as long as I keep the title and bill of sale in my car? The only other alternative is to drive to Mass, pick up the title and the bill of sale, drive back to Connecticut, get it registered, then drive back to Mass to pick up the car again. This seems like a waste of time, but on the other hand I don’t want to get in trouble for driving an unregistered car – even if it is only for a couple of hours. I cannot find information on how to do this legally! Please help!
