I have been a sales person & sales manager in the Manufactured Home business since I was 18. Now I am 24 and looking to get in the car sales business. I don’t know a lot about cars, but when I started in Manufactured Home I didn’t know anything either. I won lots of awards & trips in the Manu. Home business and I consider myself a pretty good sales person. I sold the homes, secured the financing for the home as well, and helped with any service issues with the home. I was wondering from someone that has been in the car business how hard is it? Is securing financing hard for the loan hard? What are commissions like? What is base salary like? What is the more popular dealer(Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc) to work for? Is it extremely stressful?

Recently, I decided I wanted a change, I just moved to a new city and have been pretty bored with the sales job I’ve had for the past few years. I was offered a car sales position working for Honda, but I am having a hard time deciding if I should give it a shot. If I ever were to sell cars it would be for a company like Honda or Toyota, simply because it seems they have their niche customers moreso than other car makers, plus the quality of their cars. However, at the same time I just don’t know if getting into this industry is something that is easy to do or not. The upside is great if you are a top producer, but I just have no idea how quickly someone can jump right in and start making good money. Any advice from people doing it would be greatly appreciated!

I currently work in a hotel making 9.00 an hour. I love my job, except for my manager she is a phycotic old lady. I have been given tje opportuniy to become a car salesman. I am single I have an apartment paying 600.00 a month, And i am barely making it right now. Do you think it would be smart to take on this new position, I am nervous about commission and that I may not make enough to pay my bills I want to make more than what I am now.

I am a salesman at a Chrysler Jeep and Dodge dealership in San Diego. All our new vehicles have a LIFETIME WARRANTY. I am not a fleet or internet sales person, I am just your average sales go who is wanting to find that extra mile and take it, what can I do drive more customers to me.
