V asked:

We have a price set. I want to make sure that I do everything I need to, because he is permanently moving outside the US, so if something is forgotten or neglected, it could be impossible to recify it.

I assume that I need to write out a bill of sale for each of us, saying this car was purchased on this date for x amount of dollars.

What else is needed? Thanks so much for answering

    Get a promissory noty

Your friend needs to sign the title and give it to you.

You give him a bill of sale; it doesn’t have to be formal, just a letter will suffice.

You take care of everything else (i.e. taxes, registration, etc.).

have him sign the title over to you and then take the title and the bill of sale to the motor vehicle office and register the car (get the plates).
