scheibler1 asked:

I just recently bought a used car on May 31, 2008 from a used car dealership where I live. I understand that I have to pay sales tax which is 7-8% in my area, get new plates, tags, etc. I have already updated my insurance and am awaiting the Title in my name. How long do I have until I have to pay the sales tax?

Thanks!

  • David L says:

Many states will give you a 60 – 90 day temporary tag while the title paperwork is being processed. As soon as you go in with the title and request permanent plates you will have to pay the taxes.

So basically, when yout temp tags expire you will need to pay the taxes.

You will not get a title in your name until the sales tax is paid. The dealer probably collected the sales tax already.
