Erwin Z asked: I see alot off shows on tv and what not that say its not. its that its a “Joke” job. my brother wants to try selling cars cause the income sometimes is high.. what do you guys think?
if you work as a car sales me please give us the 411! thanks !
if he’s good at it than it will be a good job
It is a commission based job, so that means you get a really low base salary, and you make money on each car that you sell. If you are a motivated, go-getter kind of person, then sales is probably for you. You have to be aggressive and really good at persuading people. You can potentially make a lot of money selling cars, but you can also potentially not make much at all if you don’t sell any.
I have been in the car biz for over 15yrs and its by no means a joke job. The reason I have stayed in the business so long can be sum ed up easy -money!! Its a very hard business that requires very long hrs and more stress than most can understand.I would advise against getting in the car world unless your ready for a roller coaster ride. The structure of pay is usually a small base salary for a couple of months and then 100% ccommission. The hardest part is the up and down cycle as one day you make 500.00 and then you might not make a penny for several days. If you would like to give it a shot find a dealership that will give you a base + commission after the first 45 days you will know whether its right or not. I have been in management for the last 12yrs and the stats are 1 out of 5 people hired will make it past 6mths .Overall if you can do it the average sales person makes 30k and above average 70-80k and middle out around 40k .Try and work at a import store like Toyota or Honda as the sales are more consistent with that type of buyer as they are not effected by seasonal changes.
