I need a job. I was wanting to be a car salesman. I think i would make a great salesman. I have took 21 honors classes throughout my High School career. I go to college and high school at the same time now. I own and operate my own ebay business. what chances do I have at getting hired on at a car dealership as a sales person? I have never sold cars, and I have no employment history.
I have a 2001 Ford Taurus SES in great condition with 114k miles that I am trying to sell. I have tried the Houston Chronicle and have had no luck there. I have had a few responses via Craigslist but no one serious enough to make an appointment to see the car.
Out of places like autotrader, cars.com, vehix.com, etc., which site gets the most traffic and would be most likely to sell my car? Any other online sales suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I have been a sales person & sales manager in the Manufactured Home business since I was 18. Now I am 24 and looking to get in the car sales business. I don’t know a lot about cars, but when I started in Manufactured Home I didn’t know anything either. I won lots of awards & trips in the Manu. Home business and I consider myself a pretty good sales person. I sold the homes, secured the financing for the home as well, and helped with any service issues with the home. I was wondering from someone that has been in the car business how hard is it? Is securing financing hard for the loan hard? What are commissions like? What is base salary like? What is the more popular dealer(Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc) to work for? Is it extremely stressful?
Thanks for any help!
Car dealers are typically located close to one another, they cluster in one section of town. Interpreting this behavior with the Hotelling Model, would you say that price competition is intense in the industry for car sales? Why or why not?
I don’t think it’s intense because cars have both vertical and horizontal differentiation.
As a result of the increasing functionality of the internet, we as customers can afford to be as choosy as we’d like and still get our way when it comes to buying new or used cars. Today, we don’t have to settle for the cars on the local car lots, we can find a car matching our exact specs on any car lot in the US or custom build our own cars and have them shipped directly from the factory to the local car dealer.
Finding Customized Used Cars Online
In the past, we were limited to only the cars on the car dealer lots within our proximity. As the internet expanded our availability to shop, we could buy used cars with the exact features we love from whichever car dealership in the world happened to have it on their lot. Today, even if you live California but find more choices of used cars in Virginia Beach 3,000 miles away, you can order up your favorite used car without ever leaving your home.
How To Save Tons of Money and Still Get the Used Car You Want
But how do you get your used car from its current location to your driveway? If you live in Virginia and do a search on a nationwide auto sales database for the car of your choice and find one at a dealership in California, you’ll face the challenge of getting it home. Transporting a car from one location to another can be a real pain and extremely pricey.
Here’s a hint. Instead of buying your car from a distant car dealership, find a local car dealership that will bring the car to you! Car dealerships buy used cars from all around the country at auctions anyway and have them shipped to their lots. Why not let them find the one you want and bring it to you?
Many used car dealerships allow you to search online from their websites to find specific makes, models, and options on used cars directly from their nationwide database. For example, a dealership that sells used cars in Virginia Beach allows you to search not just their inventory, but a nationwide inventory of used cars based on year, make, model, trim, color, and price. When you buy from a local dealership this way, they’ll bring the car right to your area and you never have to worry about shipping.
Factory Direct Customization
In today’s consumer-driven market, you can get a new car built to your exact specs without paying any additional cost for this super-star treatment. If you’re going to spend your hard earned money on a new vehicle, it doesn’t make sense not to get exactly what you want! Because of increased competition in the auto industry, there are literally millions of combinations of options to choose from.
For example, the 2008 Ford F150 comes in more than 40 different cab styles! Ford F150 cab styles range from the standard 126″ regular cab to the AWD Super Crew 139″ Harley Davidson model cab. And that’s just the cab! Consider options like exterior color, interior color, storage, entertainment devises, and more and your options become almost limitless. You could probably visit every car dealership from Virginia Beach to California and still not find the exact combination of options you want on the lot.
Custom Building A Ford Doesn’t Mean a Higher Price Tag
It doesn’t cost more to custom build a Ford online through a dealer’s website than it does to buy a car off the lot with the same features. Think about it, that same Virginia Beach car sales dealership needs to order a stock of cars from the factory anyway. The sales agents pick and choose options that they think their customers will enjoy – but with so many options on cars and trucks today, what are the chances that the dealership will order vehicles with the exact features you want?
Though the option of custom building your own car online has been available for several years, most auto consumers are not taking advantage of this incredible opportunity to personalize their vehicles! Why not? Thanks to the internet, we no longer have to settle for whatever happens to be available. We can afford to be picky, choosy, and not spend a fortune to get exactly what we want.

Global warming is often blamed on the use of our cars and for this we are slapped with huge taxes and massive purchase prices. This is in a bid to keep our car usage down and fuel consumption to a minimum to save the environment. No matter that these huge corporations spew out millions of tons of waste everyday all over the world, just as long as we don’t use our car to get to work.
It seems the drivers are rebelling! Car hire and car sales have noticed that drivers, particularly the older ones, are steering back to vehicles with bigger engines – exactly the ones the government are trying to subdue us into doing without. Is this because the older man is more likely to afford the extra charges that go with it or because they don’t have long enough left to worry about the environment, or simply because they have the intelligence to see the scaremongering global warming for the hog wash it is?
Drivers over fifty are particularly responsible for the use of car hire where engine size is over 2000cc and even over 3000cc. Will the government jump on the bandwagon and blame these people for melting icebergs and homeless polar bears? Do they care? Driving around with that much power beneath you in your car hire vehicle, would you really worry about it?
Having said that, advancements are being made in the field of fuel consumption all the time and a prototype engine is currently being worked on that promises to save a massive twenty seven per cent fuel consumption.
When it comes to paying for our vehicle fuel, never make the mistake of using the pumps at a car hire firm. This is one rip off the companies use to fleece us big time. There are various ways you can choose to pay for fuel for car hire and one of those is to fill up at their depot. This is where you will find prices at up to forty per cent more expensive than high street petrol stations.
Another of their tricks is to take it full and return it full. However, you must ensure you fill it completely. If car hire staff can squeeze in any amount they will often charge you for re-fuelling of a complete tank.
While on the subject of car hire rip offs, take a closer look at insurances and extra cover that they try and encourage you to take out. Many are unnecessary and you will often be covered on other policies. If you have the time, before you use car hire it is worth checking these things out.
CDW is collision damage waiver. Despite already having insurance cover this is an extra that car hire companies offer to reduce the excess you would pay in the event of an accident.
Don’t be fooled into thinking this is enough. You can always take out the souper douper SCDW. Does exactly what CDW does but a little more so your liability is down to zero.
Car hire companies will also try on convincing you that you need TW – theft waiver. Protecting your liability against theft with the souper douper version also on offer. Is this not exactly what your basic insurance is for? Insure yourself against damage or theft then take out extra insurance just in case it gets damaged or stolen instead.
PI – personal insurance is offered by car hire companies and this will pay out if you kill yourself in an accident. Most useful!!
PEC – personal effects cover, pays out if your property is stolen from your vehicle. You may well find that your house insurance covers you for this, so check it out before you leave home and have to dig further into your pocket.
