we want to sell our car in new york city as one private entity to another private individual. the NYS DMV website states that the seller must remove the plates from the vehicle before handing the car over to the new buyer, in order to return the plates to the DMV. we will be signing the title over to the new buyer, but still – how does the new buyer drive away legally without any plates on the car?
I have a 2001 Ford Taurus SES in great condition with 114k miles that I am trying to sell. I have tried the Houston Chronicle and have had no luck there. I have had a few responses via Craigslist but no one serious enough to make an appointment to see the car.
Out of places like autotrader, cars.com, vehix.com, etc., which site gets the most traffic and would be most likely to sell my car? Any other online sales suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I am a Internet/Fleet maager at a car dealership in Oakland and have been doing it for abour 4 years. I understand why there is a bad reputation for car sales people but the new generation of sales people are reall good. We are trying to go above and beyond to over come the stigma. I know that there a are a few bad apples in the business but over the years they are disapearing. I am completley honest with my customers and provide a clear channel of comunication. But some times that back fires on me. some people just like the grind. they like to beat me up for hours no matter what. It makes it not worth doing business. they beat me up for four hours and leave me no porfit. I rather give the the same deal form the beggining but no one ever goes for the first price. I gues what I am trying to find out from you guys is how I can sell the car to you, Save you and me time, Have an enjoyable transaction, and still make a small but fair profit.Do I reall have to go through all bs.
I believe I may be a car salesperson’s worst nightmare.
By the time I arrive at the lot, I will already have financing lined up (through my credit union, which offered me a low rate, because my credit score is a near-perfect 796).
I know exactly what model, make and color of car I want, and plan to order from the factory because no local dealers have a car with my exact specifications. I will walk away if the dealer tries to sell me a car off their lot.
I plan to summarily & firmly reject all offers of dealer financing, as well as extras such as extended warranty, rustproofing crap, Lojack, etc,,
If the dealer makes me put a deposit on a factory-ordered car, I will, but only if the dealer guarantees (in writing) that it’s fully refundable.
Furthermore, I’m a cynical, mistrustful, Edmunds-spouting jerk. I am sure the dealer won’t be able to ***** me, but I am wondering how they will treat me in return for my toughness?
(no offense to any car salesperson reading this)
To the first responder (Brutally Honest). Thanks for your answer, it’s very thoughtful. I can’t pick a Best Answer yet (too early) but let me just add that I do intend to purchase Lo-jack for sure. I just don’t want to purchase it from the dealer.
