Drew W asked: I have listed my car online for sale. If I find a buyer, how does the paper work get processed? (ie – DMV? where do I report taxes (I live in NYC)? Is a certified check alright? What is protocol for a test drive? etc…
Many Thxs in advance for all your help!
The best way to go about this is to have them come see and test drive the car. A certified check or cash should be due when you sign the title over to them. If they want to buy the car sight unseen, make sure you get the $ before letting go of your vehicle. Just use common sence and don’t be too trusting.
When the buyer gets there, they will want to test drive the car. Let them BUT go with them AND take along another person In case the person is not on the up and up. After the car is test driven, and they give you CASH or CASHIERS CHECK, you can sign the title over to the buyer. Be very careful of bogus checks also. Cash is the best way to go. Pops
