I think it was the “King and I”.In that they were not in china but in Bangkok.
This sounds like “The King and I”. If so this is a film about the king of Siam who hires an Englishwoman to teach his children English. There are two versions, an old one starring Yul Bruyner and a remake. Hope this helps
‘The King and I’ was based on the book ‘Anne and the King of Siam’. Siam is now called Thailand. Rex Harrison was played the king in one movie, but Ule Brennar was the star on Broadway, and a later, more succesfull release. It’s all good.
everyone is correct. Jodie Foster starred in the remake titled: Anna and The King with Chow Yun-Fat that came out a few years ago, bother versions are good, but i got a soft heart for the classics. There’s been a few different versions over the years with different titles. Anna and The King (with Jodie), The King and I (musical version) and Anna and The King of Siam (first movie made)

As others have said, the King here is the King of Siam (Thailand) even though he is played by Chinese actor Chow Yun-fat. Jodie Foster plays Anna.
